A drizzly evening, a last minute photo-pass and one of the busiest concert-halls in Belgium lead to one of the most anticipated concerts, by the hugely popular rockband The Kooks. At least to thousands of screaming teenage girls, who had the time of their life. But it must be said, the Brits did set the place on fire in no time!

How wonderful the internet can be. Just a week ago I noticed a post by a fellow member of Belgium Digital, showing his work on Ana Popvic’s concert in Bierbeek. I checked her myspace and loved the sound of her music. On the bottom of the page, the calender showed her next concert would be even closer to me, so I tried my luck. I’m VERY thankful the organiser gave me permission to shoot the concert at his small, but very cosy club, The Factory in Aalst.
I wasn’t quit prepared for this small event, that blew me away. The Monday Lovers, Belgium’s blues pride did set the mood for a splendid evening.
Ana Popovic turned out to be the most exciting guitarplayer I’ve ever experienced. This fragile looking lady brings a hot, steamy blues, thrilling solo’s and with and an incredible drive… Who said the blues come from the US. I say it’s played by a Yugosalvian girl, living in Amsterdam!

The historical center of my hometown Ghent was transformed in a stage to celebrate the final season of a popular cops-show in Belgium. Press-conference, a parade and a show in front of 135.000 people. It got crowdy at times…
Colbie Caillat, the Californian singer, presented her debutalbum Coco at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. Her refreshing sound and optimistic popsongs were greatly appreciated by the audience. I allready liked her and seeing her performing live made me a big fan.
Jasper Erkens opened the show. This new talented singer/songwriter performed outstanding and allready has a very commited female fanclub…

During the first real summernight in a long time, the majestic setting of The Rivierenhof open air theatre inspired Daan Stuyven and Isolde Lasoen to bring the audience one of the most intimate, hearthwarming concerts in a while. Piano, guitar, subtle percussion and Isolde’s angelic voice transformed Daan’s popmusic with electro influences in a wonderful experience… The Flying Horseman, the support-act, was a nice discovery…

1000 Zonnen is a daily summershow in july and august on the national televesion in Belgium. Every week there was an event with a live concert by The Expendables. I went down on a lazy sundayafternoon, to capture the last show of the season…
Eva De Roovere happened to perform at some events I attended and she won me over big time with her different and refreshing music. Beeing able to shoot her performance at the wonderful open-air arena "Rivierenhof" is one of the little joys I had recently. Followed by Isabelle A, a great singer who proves that she’s no longer the little girl we know from her earlier work, back in the 90′s. Wonderful site, wonderful performances… utter joy.
During the Dranouter Festival, I had the opportunity to shoot the event from the frontstage as pressphotographer. An interesting experience and lots of fun, though sometimes 3 songs time to shoot should be a bit longer. But on the other hand, this gives you the chance to actually enjoy the music too.
Woven Hand was THE event of the day for me, David Eugene Edwards never ceases to amaze me with his overwhelming sound and intensity. Xavier Rudd proved to me what I allready expected. He’s a very talented singer-songwriter and plays a fantastic set. Go see him and Woven hand if you ever get the chance!
The line up of this shoot:
Xavier Rudd, Woven Hand, Aire Gitano, Gabriel Rios, Uiscedwr, Susanne Vega, Tim Van Hamel, Jim White, Ozark Henry and Thierry Robin.

A small town’s square, a sunny evening and 3 great livebands… all the ingredients needed for a great night out!
